ARD or floating dry docks and moving them? They are pretty much immovable in the game correct, or am I missing something? I mean moving them to another base

You can move them, but they usually lack endurance or speed and move at one hex a turn. You'll need to have something accompany them to provide refueling, etc. Alternatively, they can be moved on their own but will buildup sys damage over time once they run out of endurance, moving at 1 hex a turn.

I usually stick them with a couple of EC2s and a few short ranged SCs. Get them to Pearl, then repair, then move them to the next port, like Auckland, repair, rinse and repeat until you get them to where they need to be. Make sure their is some naval support and ARs at the final destination to repair them one more time.

It was fixed in a patch, but there were some ARDs that showed up in Portland that couldn't move because of river move rules. I think they were shifted to Seattle.

I have read of Japanese players moving the ARD at Truk, with a suitable escort of course, to Saipan or elsewhere at game start.

Never tried it myself but it could help in keeping it in action longer. I'd be petrified of it sinking though, as japan only gets the one....

Come to think of it, the ARDs are petrified too.

IJN ARDs are so small...good for subs, small craft and some merchants.

Yeah, there's only one (at least in stock) and you'll get good use of it in Truk. Don't see a need to move it elsewhere as small damaged ships may not even make it to the base if its too far away.

If its lost c'est la guerre.[:'(]

Oh aye. Its invaluable for knocking out all the small bumps and dents on your south seas sub flotilla and keeping it operational.

The reasoning behind moving it, I guess, is that since Truk is going to be rendered untenable sooner or later, better to evacuate it somewhere a smidgen safer at the outset, before the enemy subs have time to swarm en masse. Probably nigh on impossible to move the thing reasonably safely from beginning of 43 onwards...

But I've never tried it. I like it where it is, and am scared it will run into a whale or something en route...

I move them all the time. My current game is in March of '45 and all but three of the American ARDs are at my forward fleet base at Agrihan. The remaining three are at Kavieng.

Makes total sense for the Allies. Just not so much for Japan. I mean there's only the one anyway.
