You can find a lot of those animations on Youtube if you know where to look. History Channel's 'Battle 360' is blown out of the water by the work in these.

Beautiful animation, details seem accurate right down to the rate of fire of the 5.25" AA vs the 4.0" AA.
The only quibble I had was with the ship's wakes showing as a thin ribbon rather than an expanding feather.

I must've taken a left turn at Albuquerque. My thought when seeing this video: awful. What am I missing?

So many of the depictions of naval battles use stock footage of ships that weren't in the battle or even worse - enemy ships are shown while they talk about the other side! The footage does not show the battle itself, just fuzzy pictures of ships and crude animations of dots on a map to show the battle sequence. And then the details of the battle are often sketchy or inaccurate.

This animation featured beautifully detailed ships and aircraft and got the details of the battle exactly right - things like Repulse maneuvering to comb the tracks of the first couple of torpedo attacks but being caught eventually in an anvil attack where combing one set of torps exposed her sides to the other set.

The video was a tribute to the Japanese airmen who carried out the attack, as we would praise our own military success and salute the fallen in battle. Even the losing side gets to salute its heroes.

The British ships were greatly under-AA-gunned by Pacific War standards.

I'd like to see them do Midway. Or even Coral Sea.

Viewing this was like watching my boys play a video game in 2003. The animation is very bad. Everything about it, but I'll point out just a few - the Bettys seem to leap into the air rather than actually taking off; the periscope view seems to be from about 50 feet up; the submarine emerges from the sea like the Nautiulus about to take off in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea[/b] (I'm no submariner, so perhaps that's actually how they do it); the bouquets thrown from the Bettys in tribute seem to enter into a black hole of inky nothingness.

In what world is this good? Have our video-imaginations morphed tastes so much that this seems good?

This isn't MGM or Universal...but it shows. Alot.

Are you playing this game because of historical accuracy or because of fancy streamlined graphics?

I play because it's fun and challenging, not for the graphics. I fast-forward through the animations.

If my comments about the video are irritating, I'll can withdraw them or delete them. They are just an opinion, nothing more.

It's obviously not AAA-quality, but it's fun to see nonetheless. I'd guess an amateur made the animations, but they are better than nothing and seem decently accurate. As for your opinion, everyone's entitled to one. [:D]

The water around the sites where the two ships sank was fouled with fuel oil. In fact, many of the dead survived the sinking but were killed by the oil.

I don't run the animations at all. I'm too impatient to see the results.

I hadn't even heard about [DCS: World] - great entertainment. Are there other similar programs with better graphics? Here is a
picture from a scenario I made in Silent Hunter V.

IJN - battleship in the background - light cruiser covering - bad visibility - Battle of the Celebes Sea - Book VI - chapter 4..[;)]
