Changing options while playing?

Can I change the optional rules while playing? If so how?

I forgot to enable the ability to save BPs from one turn to the next when I set up a new game and I'm already multiple turns in.

There is no in-game method to do so, but with a text editor it is possible to do so. Be warned that turning some options on or off mid-game (anything that adds or subtracts available units, for example) is very likely to create an unplayable game, with crashes occurring.

About the fourth line in each game save will be a long list of ones and zeros. These are the options. Changing from 0 to 1 turns the option on, similarly turning a 1 to 0 turns it off. I believe that the order is that of the options on the option screen.

Be warned that if you do this, and do get a crash, do not bother reporting it to Steve. The ability to switch options on or off is emphatically NOT a supported feature of the game. (With the exception that the extended game length option may be turned on mid-game, in-game.)

To win my 2 netplay games as the Allies I may need to turn on the extended game option...I hope it extends until 1950.

0 or 00 (and likewise 1, or 01)?

Never mind I found it - looks like single digit CSV.

I take it line 7 is something else?

Incidentally, if you open the save file in excel, does it cause corruptions on saving amendments? I have some very good game save editors for CSV data files (or one, anyway); it would be a bit of work to line up what columns are what values to no effect, hence the question.

I recommend only rules that don’t involve units. I think save BP is safe to change

Understood.

I had saving oil/BPs switched on in my solo playthrough; I was thinking the same - turning off divisions and/or CLiF is not going to end well.

However, some reading has suggested Gds Banner armies is a recommended option; adding that might be easier then deleting something.

Generally new units are added in upon a new game. The game either puts them in the force pool etc or the removed pool. That only happens once and as far as I can tell the game doesn’t ever recalculate that.

Also maybe this has changed but I don’t even think that option is enabled in the game period so GBA might be a moot discussion altogether

Yes, GBAs are yet to be coded. Turning on the option will best case do nothing, worst case crash the program.

I am not playing with artillery or engineers (or using division breakdowns) so they may not be needed for balance.
