We have a cvp stuck at sea - is our game recoverable?

Somehow a cvp has been left at sea. It was supposed to be shot down but is still showing at sea after its' CV aborted the zone. During EOT RTB step I'm unable to land it anywhere (it's in BoB and says closest hex is 44,24 but I can't land it on that or any other hex).
What options do we have to save our game?
1) Is there a way to "delete" the unit by editing game file?
2) Can I send out an empty cvp then land on it to get it out of there?
3) Is there a mechanism within game to voluntarily destroy a unit? I know in boardgame WIF at some point during EOT or SOT you can destroy any unit you want to on the map - this is to get units that are out of pockets back into force pool - for example Koniev trapped in E Poland can be destroyed by SU to get him back in forcepool).
4) Can I leave him out and the Germans can send out a FTR, we can modify search rolls so he's found then modify a2a so he gets shot down?
Any other suggestions? Which of these will work?
Thanks
