Port attack bug

This time it's too easy to see that it's a bug.

Barbarossa 1st impulse. Port attack, nav factor 3 (land based = 3). Surprise roll USSR = 10

Total 3 factors and 13 surprise points, = 6 shifts if spent this way.

USSR AA 5 points at half power because of Surprise = 3, against 1 bomber, nil.

So you can use all your 13 points in attack, however, the offered options are the opposite. It would look like it was the USSR who had the surprise.

The game simply lets me do down as many AA columns as I want, but I an in the 3 AA power against 1 bomber so I am free of flak.

Even if for some reason it would want me to go to the 1-2 AA column, it would mean 1 column down = 2 Surprise points, but it lets me go down all.

It's clear for me that the game gives the surprise to the wrong side in spite of what is written at the top of the screen.

What do you think?

Why are you using any surprise points to decrease AA which starts at "no effect"? Instead, wait until you're through with AA, which will be no effect, and then use your surprise points to increase your attack column.

You can use surprise points to either avoid combat or decrease the enemy's AA column at this stage. There is no mentioning in the rules that you cannot spend more surprise points than the ones you really need to get to the "No effect" column. Sure, it's stupid to do so, but that in itself isn't a bug...

After the AA fire gets resolved, you can use surprise points to increase the columns to damage the enemy fleet.

Ok, so I could have gone on… I can see now the OK downstairs , I thought the only two options allowed were abort combat and decrease AA, hence my comments.
