I am just as happy to have no campaign or MP. For for a dedicated SP game like this, there are some lessons to be taken from Matrix's other great game, Command or CMNAO.

1) Have a God's Eye View where you can see every aspect of the AI and its plans and alter them on the fly by switching sides in an editing mode.
2) A good game recording feature that lets you also jump into the game at any point and create a scenario at that point.
3) Detailed orders at waypoints. This is more for the AI's benefit, but can help players as well.
4) More flexible objectives and scoring. Not just kills and territory.
5) And to get people building some unique content, some kind of scripting engine, like Lua or equivalent
6) An easier to get to and robust editing system that is a core part of the game and includes the above features.

Lacking some of these features, the game is still a great game. I think you'll find the community a little deadended on delivering the kind of content needed to maintain interest in an SP-only game.
