My wishlist for map

First thing I wished to try as a map modder was Weser river area, very important place for BAOR. But it seems that 22sec has a project for BOAR sector near Hanover.

Next place of my interest is Hamburg ~ Kiel area (or maybe include Denmark border), or Dutch-Germany border of Northern Germany, including Weser river exit and Bremen. I was interested in this sector after I read about Cold War Polish Army operation plan of coastal front.

Those area would be great place to enjoy this game.

I was originally interested in West Berlin, since West Berlin would be fill in approximately 30km x 30km size, I can make the map relatively small. But this game's vehicle AI is not perfect yet to nicely describe city battle around the urban-heavy geometry, so I'm not sure if West Berlin would be an optimal region for this game. But still it would be cool though.

Outside of Germany, my pick is Korea and Israel. First, both have a good place to depict the clash between armors, and second, those places are one of the "likely to happen" or "hot" places during cold war or even these days. Third, I can use current game's data for RoK/DPRK or Israel/Syria.

For Korea, first thing I wish to depict is region around Pyongyang or southern approach of Pyongyang, the capital of DPRK. One merit of DPRK region is that, using recent google map or openstreetmap data would still historically reasonable for cold war games, since DPRK is seriously under-developed nation, not much of geometry would have been changed since cold war.

Next good place would be DMZ area, north of Seoul, capital of RoK. But Korea has so developed nowdays, using modern map data would not be a proper field for cold war DMZ region. Problem is, I'm not sure openstreetmap or any other layers I can get from QGIS or Mapper would provide historical data in the past. Me or someone still can proceed with modern map data though, we can just assume it is 1970 or 1980 XD.

For Israel, my best pick would be the region around Golan Heights. Not to mention Yom Kippur war, but also it is one of the dangerous place even now days. Basically dry and desert map, so I guess it would be relatively easier to make a map? Anyway, this place will be perfect for armored clash. Probably Israel vs Syria, but maybe Iraq or Hamas?

Once I make a map, I believe that someone will make a faction data. Because I think map making is more difficult job, and faction data work might relatively easy.

I'm not sure how much time I can spend, but wish to try at least one. For now I need someone to teach me how to start. But we'll see.

You and I share a lot of the same ideas. The Hamburg-Lubeck corridor is a good map.

Indeed, those places, like Weser river crossings and Danish-German border, are strategically important places for both sides. I think others might interested to those regions too. Let me know if you are interested for mapping work, I can do my part after I learn.

All great hot spots to consider. Scenarios can utilize Soviet and Western equipment as stand ins for now.

Here's some ideas I came up with based on that :)

For the Golan heights, I think if you squeeze it in like this, you get a good map for both Israel-Syria and Israel-Lebanon types of conflicts - probably a good general-purpose map!

Just out of interest in the Arab-Israeli wars, I also took a look at the Suez canal - that one isn't as neat of a fit, and would require at least 3 different maps to cover fully - depends on what areas you're mostly interested in!

Korea is a tough one - it's a lot bigger than people often realize - but here's some interesting right-sized chunks I could see carving out that would make really good maps:

I think the DMZ around Kaesong is the one that's a real must if anyone decides to have a crack at the Korean theater.

IDF vs Egypt on the Sinai/Great Bitter Lake would be awesome too.

...and just in case someone wants to open up this particular can of worms, here's what it looks like on an AB map-sized grid:
