Question about Corps and Army HQ's

What role do these higher level HQ's play. (I am referring to the "Operation Typhoon" scenario). Are they just supply boosters? Does a corps HQ only support units within the same corps? Is there a way to highlight which divisions belong to a corps or army? Do I have to keep them close with their divisions? Or are they just there for historical flavor?

Page 153 of the manual has a chart you can look at. Many higher level HQ are just there for looks. Some can boost supply depending on their cooperation level. Might also want to do a search for cooperative headquarters.

Thank you. How can I figure out the cooperation level of a HQ unit?

Right click the HQ unit and click on Show Formation Report. It's the middle line of yellow centered wordage:

In this case the formation and so the HQ is on free support. Many HQ are their own formation in some scenarios but the formation report will still show their scope. With a little reading you'll see support scope and cooperation level are tightly bound together.

Thank you so much. There is obviously no real connection between Corps and Div HQ's. If I move my Corps HQ 500 miles away it won't have any effect, right? (Except for the lost support potential)

Resupply bonus is all that you lose. But, even if a formations HQ is on the moon there is no effect to the units subordinate to the HQ as long as there is a clear line of communications. The HQ gives a resupply bonus, tries to not get destroyed and makes it easier for units to reorganize. Whether or not they actually help a unit decide in which direction to retreat is not conclusive. The rule books simply says towards a cooperative HQ or a supply source. It's which of the two conditions takes precedence that is in question. That's about it unless the scenario designer does something like adds artillery to it.

I should probably add. Since HQ units can disengage without penalty some people use the hugely a-historical tactic of using them as rear guards. As if Eisenhower would hold back the Germans with his 45cal pistol and map table. [:D]
