Hello All,

We have a new update for TOAW4. This one is a remaster, and will require you to uninstall your old copy of the game and reinstall from the new installer.

Normally we never require players to do this, but we have decided to establish identical folder structures for the Matrix and Steam versions. This will make keeping the game and custom scenarios much easier to keep organised in the future, for both the players and us.

This folder structure change will not be noticeable to you when playing. What has happened is that we have moved all default scenarios and their files from the folders under Documents/My Games to the ones under the main game folders within C:\Program Files.

The Documents/My Games folders will still be present, and they should be used for all downloaded custom scenarios - so all instructions on how to download and install those remain the same.

In summary, the changes that require us asking you to reinstall are entirely in the background and will not affect your playing experience, but they will be very beneficial in keeping things simple going forward.

HOW TO INSTALL THE UPDATE

As explained above, this is slightly more involved thatn a regular patch install. Here are the step-by-step instructions:

1) Uninstall your current copy of TOAWIV. Easiest is to use the Uninstall shortcut from the game's Start Menu folder on Windows. Alternatively you can go to "Add/Remove Programs" in Windows and select TOAWIV.
Uninstall will not remove the player-made scenarios you have downloaded. They will be still available when you are done with the installation. Same applies to your saved games.
2) Download the 4.1.0.20 from The Members Area. You need to have registered the game there for it to appear.
3) Run the installer, follow the instructions. Enter the serial number you have received when purchasing the game, when prompted
4) Enjoy the game!

Fixed tooltips
Fixed an issue with the designer preference for the new Density rules not working as designed.
Fixed most issues with being unable to run when the document directory path contains non-western characters.
Fixed several issues with Steam Workshop. Scenarios should now show up correctly, you should also get prompts about common issues with uploading scenarios. PBEM should now work correctly with Steam scenarios which have alternate graphics set up.
Added more logging to try to troubleshoot Sound issues with non-western languages on a few systems.
Updated several scenarios.

Well, it is the same thing basically. I would recommend only having either the Matrix or Steam version on your system to avoid any possible issues (although I have both and I have none). So uninstalling the Matrix version is recommended regardless like in step 1 above.

Then you can install either the new Matrix or the Steam version. You will end up with the same version regardless.

I went to the members club page and clicked on the download button (HTTP) and it didn't work.
So I clicked on it again and again it didn't work. So I clicked on it again and again it
didn't work. Then I looked in my save directory and found three new files but they aren't
zips and I don't know what to do with them. Ideas?

There unfinished downloads, i just delete them.

They will be Zip files when the DL is complete. Delete the 2 smaller ones....GP

I uninstalled my TOAW went the members page and could not find the new version to download. All I can find is version 4.1.0.4 released in October so I'm downloading that. Is there a more recent version and where is the download for it?

Aaaad, that did not work as I don't have TOAW IV installed anymore. Clicking on the link in post #5 leads me here and when I click on the link to TOAW IV here it takes me to the main product page on which the lastest update I can find is the October one. Since others have found the correct download I suspect I'm missing something pretty basic, but I'm a pretty basic guy. Help!

Click on the My Serial Numbers link to the right. Look for TOAW4 in your list and click on downloads....GP

Well it doesn't work for me. It installs and I can load the initial scenarios but when I press the "Folder" button it says "The system cannot find the path specified"

NB I installed to C:\Matrix Games\TOAW***whatever not the default program files\Matrix whatever



Further edit; I did a complete new install and same thing. So I've gone back to 4.1.0.8 and it is finding the scenarios OK. I'll settle for that for now so no need to respond. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response btd64! When I click on that link the only download that shows up is for Strategic Command WWII. If I click on the my orders link I can get my original TOAW IV download but, again, the latest version that it has is the October 2018 download.

I do have TOAW IV in my account but no December 6th download shows up!

Nevermind...saw the quick fix on steam about adding a scenario folder and all seems to be working now...

Having problems installing this on my laptop; things went OK on my desktop, but when installing on my laptop I got many "decompression errors" for pdf, doc, ttf, and sce files. After ignoring several dozen files, I aborted the install. This has happened twice--what is the problem here?

[EDIT] Looks like my file got corrupted at some point; I recopied it and it installed fine...
