Delaying US entry as axis?

I've been playing as Japan for a few tries now and reckon I have got a fairly good chance of taking Chungking and generally pwning China.

Trouble is USA keeps declaring on me about June 1941. I've not had a chance to drill down into the diplomacy but I suspect declaring war on Indochine in late 1940 is doing me no favours. Pretty hard to launch a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor when the US has already declared on you.

Does anyone have any feedback on how to keep the US out of things?

Don't advance in China
Don't declare war on anyone
Suck it up as the Axis and spend the 150 mmp/chit to try and decrease the chance of the US joining in

Don't advance in China

Does not seem to matter too much, in my game the Chinese had two major cities left, and it was late -43 before the US DoW'ed Japan.

Interesting. As one reason Japan did not take more cities in China in RL was due to they know it would upset the US due to the Rape of Nanking. So there should be some penalty in the game for advancing in China versus just the Communists going to war.

IIRC, one of the other SC games had that in the game.

They joined against Ger/It mid 42, Japan october(ish) -43. I guess their entry levels went up against the European Axis members since they went to war left and right, whereas Japan never DoW'ed anyone.

So seems DoW'ing is the main reason for US Entry advance.

I do not think that works. Once the US is fully mobilized they can declare war on whoever they want. The US probably hit 100% mobilization in mid-'42 and then the AI chose not to declare war on Japan for another year.
