Link/zone data differs

Just started a PBEM game for Guadalcanal. We're both using the 26b Beta and the stock map (although my opponent says he is using a map mod). On loading the turn I get the message "Link/zone data differs - continue?". There hasn't been a problem yet (after 3 days); what is this? Does it matter? Thanks.

It matters. If your friend is using a map mod, make sure he actually downloaded the stock version of the map instead of an extended version; make sure you are both using the same pwhex data. Your friend might be using SL pwhex data, etc. Different versions can cause problems and in particular sync issues. If worst comes to worst, just have your partner use your version or vice/versa, which should solve the issues.

I sent him my pwhex data and the conflict is resolved. Thanks.

Now the only problems are:
1) for me to remember to move the turn file to the save folder BEFORE I start the game, and
2) for me to click the correct icon on my desktop to start the Beta game, and not the last official game
But we've all been there. Right?

Also make sure that your opponent is using the same map type as you (i.e. 'stock' vs. 'extended' map) - if he only replaces the data files and not the grahpics, he'll experience graphics glitches. It's ok to use different map graphics between opponents as long as the type matches.
