Additional fighters (i.e., those behind the front fighter) are not contributing to their sides air-to-air strength.

I cannot spot what's wrong in the screen shots? Backups are adding their A2A/10 and in neither case is it enough to affect the differential after rounding.

That's something which I want to know too, because here is
RAW:
It is equal to the air-to-air rating of your front fighter, +1 for each other FTR, and
+0.5 (CVPiF/SiF option 56: one tenth its air-to-air strength) for each
other carrier plane, in your fighter group (you ignore bombers’ air-to-air
ratings).
Of course, there's also option 55, but that rule should be optional and not standard...
RAW
Option 55: Extra (back-up) in any air combat add 1/10th to the airto-
air strength instead of 1 per unit.
