Bug - How to defeat France?

Hi folks, as Germany I triggered the Vichy/Conquer option and chose the conquer option.

I believe the condition to conquer France is that I capture Algiers, which I have done. But France won't surrender.

Is this a bug or am I missing a surrender requirement?

If France still has quite a few active units it might be a few more turns before it sutrenders as in this case surrender won't necessarily be automatic. The more units you continue to destroy the more likely it will be to eventually surrender.

You need to have Algiers and Paris captured. France will give up. But I typically have all of the mainland area captured which means very few units left [:)]

Just wondering since we are on the topic, why does the UK get to go to Canada when the UK is overrun, but France does not get to have an overseas capital?

Algiers is the overseas option, but that's it then... apart from the Free French who can take a few colonies.

This gives the French a strong incentive to fight for Algiers, whereas if there was another more remote (i.e. safer) location then they might think that defending that and leaving Algiers would be wiser. I'd rather have them throw everything into the fight for Algiers, as that seems more realistic.

Well the solution is, as I noted in a different thread, to just take Algiers first, then Paris. That way there is nothing to fight in NA for the French [:)] So I would say to prevent that, another overseas location for France is warranted.

As it is pretty easy to do Algiers first in the game right now.

Maybe we need to make Algiers a little bit harder then?

More feedback from a variety of games will help here, so we can be sure whether or not a change is needed, and whether or not it is needed just for the French AI or for all games.

In a PBEM (Europe) I'll always have the Corp in Algiers at 8 str and several French ships around to prevent amphib. I have French troops near Italian border to invade Northern Italy and drive down national morale if Italy commits troops some where else. Also block Axis ships entry into Mediterranean so no Axis subs. I never have a problem, but then again no one tries.

I don't know AI .

In a PBEM, I would never try to completely conquer France simply because that allows way too many ships running around in the Med (or anywhere else for that matter). With the AI this is not too much of an issue, but against a person, it would be very bad.

Simply because everyone that plays knows the French Navy is a throwaway. So sail up into the Adriatic and kill a few Italian ships. So what if half the navy is lost. Totally ahistorical but nothing in the game prevents people from doing all sorts of wild things with the French navy.

The only solution is to take Paris and declare Vichy ASAP to reduce the amount of time the French navy has to run amok.

Maybe both the British AND French should lose morale for French ships lost in order to tone down these things from happening. Or freeze the French navy in place unless complete conquest is chosen. Or … ?

In PBEM I would just leave the Italian navy in ports where it is very difficult for the French to hit them and the French Navy can rip itself to shreds trying. Going for complete conquest does mean that you have to leave it in port much longer.
