Installed a few days ago ran ok but now crashes when ever I click Play on the main menu (have deleted and reinstalled)

Same for me. It ran for 1 day. After that I was stupid and used steam for close combat. I installed the Ardennes mod. But steam couldn't handle that. So I re-installed the matrix version and patched. After that it crahes to desktop. Installed the steam version again and everythig was fine again. I uninstalled cc lsa of course every time.

It seems that it is looking to a wrong folder or so.

I just reinstalled the matrix version again. It works after I removed the folder named:

C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\My Games\CloseCombatLastStandArnhem

Perhaps this deleting of the folder helps you also.

For me the steam version works correctly. Only the matrix version gives the save issue. Perhaps this helps in debugging the issue.

Removing the folder C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\My Games\CloseCombatLastStandArnhem solved the problem for me.

Removing the folder solves the problem only until you save again. When you restart the game and press "Play Game" the game crashes again.

If you install the v6.0 beta update that came out in August though, the saving process runs smoothly.
If you compare the size of the two v6.0 updates, you can notice that there is a difference in size.

This means that the two updates are different.

To recap:
The v6.0 update that came out in August and that you can find on the matrix website in the download section of your account, works.
The v6.0 update that came out in October seams to be buggy and leads to crashes on different systems.

I noticed that the update(6.0) that came out in August saves the files in the C:\Matrix Games\Close Combat Last Stand Arnhem\Games\Save folder.
The newer update (the one that crashes) saves in C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\My Games\CloseCombatLastStandArnhem.

There must be some kind of conflict with steam..

Can you guys seeing crashes confirm if you are using Dropbox or OneDrive, or other file syncing software on the My Games folder on your systems?

I don't have any file syncing software on the MyGames folder.
What about Steam? Doesn't it use the folder aswell?

Steam cloud saving is not enabled for the game, so it unlikely to be touching the folder. Note that if you are running W10 (and maybe 8, I can't remember top of my head) and logged in with a MS account it may be running OneDrive anyway.

I am trying to find the bug or issue, so many thanks for all the people who have replied.

The steam version also seems to fix the issue for some people, but cause it for others, so I don't think Steam is involved.

This is a hotfix drop of an EXE that should solve the crash issues people are seeing. This is a Matrix version EXE. This EXE should be unpacked and placed in the game's install folder, then run directly. Note your AV or Windows may want to warn you or block the file because it straight from the oven.

There is also a workaround until we can push the update out. Copy the folders Save and Battles from Documents/My Games/CloseCombatLastStandArnhem/Games/ into the Games/ folder in your install folder. Once the update is out you can delete these superfluous files.

Is this file good for the GOG version too? I have the same issue and can't get it to work. I get an error message regarding serial number.

No - it is for the Matrix version only. But the updated version is currently being pushed out to the various store fronts, so should be available soon.
