Question About Multiplayer

I have had SOW Gettysburg from the Norbsoft days and my current version is 1.61, the latest version. I haven't played it in years because my friends and I always had issues trying to connect up for multiplayer. It's the main reason whey I never purchased SOW Waterloo. This evening when I was checking out the SOW Gettysburg product page I noticed the following:

New Routing server for flawless multiplayer play Multiplayer online combat in several modes, including: Standard opposite sides, cooperative play versus the AI ,play embedded within historical battle scenarios.

I fired up the game, chose multiplayer but the multiplayer screen looks exactly as I remember it with the lobby and having to enter your IP address etc.

Can someone explain to me how the new routing server works and how I would access it so I can try it out with a friend for SOW Gettysburg. If it works well I would consider getting an add on battle before the sale ends.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

So much for "New Routing server for flawless multiplayer..............."

First I tried Direct play entering my IP address and 31791 in the Server Port box. The following message came up:

"Networking Initialized Server Started...
Attempting Connection to NAT Server
<MULTI> Connection Attempt Failed to NAT Sever"

Then I tried the lobby and I got a message.
"Not connected to server"

I see nothing has changed from when I tried to play online about 3 years ago. Matrix Games really has to make online play for this game and SOW Waterloo user friendly and implement a simple procedure for saving online games for later play.
