I'm moving on from Coral Sea for now. Winning as Allies was easy enough, because it seems quite easy to kill the (relatively) undefended Japanese transports. But getting through without losing any carriers proved very difficult. Thus, the AI seems very respectable to me (a novice), even if scripted. It delivered roughly historical plans and outcomes, I think.

Now I want to learn about landings. So on to the 1,000 mile scenario - the Aleutians - as recommended in these forums. I have to say the search facility in these forums is pretty poor. But I'm not the first to say that in the last ten years, or longer....


Can anyone recommend a 1000 mile walk-through, or AAR or 'how-to', or such like?

About a year - year and a half ago there was a new player trying out that scenario multiple time, including both sides. You should be able to find it by going page by page in the AAR section looking at AAR titles.

Thanks BBfanboy. Does the AAR forum save posts that far back? I have looked through them all - there's only 4 pages - and see nothing referring to 1000 miles or the Aleutians. I assume there's more than 4 pages worth, hidden somewhere, but I can't find them.

Change the setting "from last 365 days" to "all topics" and the older AAR should appear. See picture.

Sometime, I find it easier to use Google to do the searching. Use
site:matrixgames.com/forums + "War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition" topic
Replace topic with your search criteria.

eg site:matrixgames.com/forums + "War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition" aar 1000 mile

Still can't find the thread referred to by BBfanboy, though found various other much older threads covering 1000 mile war.

What about a newbie guide to loading, transporting and unloading troops, anyone? Plus amphibious ops. Maybe I should read the manual....

The one I mentioned earlier is probably the one you need. It starts about 18 months ago and reports at least 3 attempts at the scenario.
