Fine performance he gave in that film [&o].

To be fair he was probably worn out from all those parodies he had to do. That was a lot of hard work considering how he had to work himself up into a frenzy each time about everything from Vuvuzelas to Twitter going down - not to mention the huge number of lines he had to learn.

That is sad to hear. A favourite actor of mine. From what I heard, he was approached to play Hitler and he instantly refused and was appalled by the idea. But he agreed to be put "into charachter" with full make up and uniform. And after seeing that he understood he couldn't say no.
On a side note - I hate all those Youtube parodies because they make the original movie hard to watch again. That scene is so vital and well acted and now it is ruined.

I love 'em. Some of them are truly well made and hilarious, here and here. Ganz and in general those who made the movie ordered youtube to NOT remove them [;)]

Great actor. His performances in "Downfall" and in "Der Himmel über Berlin" are just outstanding.
RIP.

He looked just like Hitler when in makeup. Really creepy which is a good thing in a convoluted sort of way.

There is already one where Hitler is told of Ganz's death.

Excellent actor, sad to see him go. There is an interview where he comments on the Youtube parodies with a sadness that in a way it diminishes the performance. His Hitler might be equalled one day, but unlikely to be bettered. Rest in peace.

IIRC, the interview was about his performance as Hitler, from the DVDs' "Making of" - and it was instantaneously turned into an interview about the parodies. A meta-parody, basically [:D]
