So I'm playing a PBEM game as the Axis and got a pop-up recommendation (one or two turns ago) to blockade US supplies to Russia via Vladivostok by placing a naval unit adjacent to the port.
It's August 1941. Barbarossa is well underway and the Russians decided to attack Japan in the East the previous month. Figuring that Russia was now already at war with Japan, I thought I could maybe do better (and get revenge) than just blockading Vladivostok - so I invaded and captured it instead with an amphibiously loaded SF unit.

Prior to this, the US mobilization level was at 57% Allies. At the end of my turn, I get a pop-up indicating that the US is alarmed at the Japanese capture of Vladivostok. Ok I thought, but when I ended my turn, I got the message that the US is preparing for war[X(].
Is this WAD?
I think I understand now that Vladivostok is not part of Russia per se, and so maybe this is why the US got so alarmed...but how could one have known that the US would swing so much in response to outright Japanese aggression against Vladivostok, particularly when Russia had DOWed Japan first? [&:]
Is this written anywhere in the Strategy guide?

I can understand your surprise, and hopefully this game was started prior to we released v1.02, as this was noticed a little while back and the relevant Mobilization script adjusted to a more reasonable setting:

- Mobilization 2 script Axis Advances In Siberia (USA→Allies) amended so that rather that swinging the US 30-35% towards the Allies, it will have a 33% chance per turn of swinging the US 5-8% towards the Allies (MrLongleg).

I believe the game was started before the v1.02 update and that I updated it to v1.02 before capturing Vladivostok.

I suppose this means that the adjustment would only take effect with a newly started v1.02 game, and not in one that was started prior to being updated, right?

While we are on the topic, the map has Vladivostok named as 'Vladivostock', which I believe is incorrectly spelled.

You're right, only a game started under v1.02 would include this change.

That is interesting about Vladivostock. It might take a while before it looks right in my mind without a c at the end!
