So I noticed that Selassie is in supply, via CW trace to Liverpool.

So Selassie in supply, and the 4.5in British artillery in (102,68) is fed by Bombay via Selassie. However, why can't the Ethiopian II Inf in the same hex also be fed by Bombay?

[2]
Shouldn't the Germans in (80,35) also be in supply via Badoglio?

So later, when the Japanese cut off the Azanian sea Selassie supply became a very interesting route that goes into Bombay several times before finally landing in Bombay [!!].

The first one is a bug. The Ethiopian INF should be in supply...

The Germans are correctly stated to be out of supply. Desert hexes counts double, so those units cannot reach Tripolis.

But shouldn't the Germans be able to trace through Badoglio, due to cooperation?
Weather in hex: fine, supply range 4
Trace SE: +2 (desert)
Trace E: +1
--Badoglio as tertiary supply source; Badoglio is in supply through Tripoli

Or at least the Italian mechanized GGFF DIV (in the same hex as the German XVIII and LVI mech corps) should be in supply?

IMO they should, they all trace to Badoglio. Cannot see Tripoli but if it is under the 7 factors plane, Badoglio is in supply as well.

it could be arguable that being the hex of Badoglio in rain it would only allow for supply delivery two hexes away and the desert costs 2 so that's why all in that hex would be OOS, cause they could only trace 2 normal hexes and in the desert that means 1 only.

However the relevant hex for climate is the hex you trace it from. It means the XVIII's hex, and there it is clear, so it's 4 hexes and they reach Badoglio. Imo it's a bug.

Actually, no! I think the game is calculating this correctly.

Yes, the Germans in Hex (80,35) are in Fine weather, so their basic supply range is 4 and can so can reach Badoglio, but cannot reach Tripoli.

Now, Badoglio is located in a Rain affected hex, Supply range is reduced to 2 hexes. Badoglio, can trace supply to Tripoli, but no further. Tripoli, is a secondary Supply source for Italian Units Only! That means tracing supply further, will only allow the Italians to remain in supply, and alas the Germans remain out of supply.

Brian.

Holy sh*t! So Tripoli is under the 6 factors fighter.

Then the supply for italians would come from Tripoli to Badoglio both as secondary but the Ge cannot consider Tripoli as secondary, so the route wold be 2 hexes + 1 hex (sea).

I guess this would depend on whether Libya is aligned or conquered:
A secondary supply source for a unit is:
ï an HQ the unit co-operates with (see 18.1); or
ï the capital city of a minor country controlled by the unit’s major power; or
ï the capital city of a major power, or a minor country, conquered by the unit’s major power, or by a major power the unit co-operates with.

Yeah, in my terminology, Badoglio is a Tertiary supply source for the Italians. The tertiary traces 2 Basic Supply Path hexes to Tripoli, which is a Secondary supply source for the Italians, and which traces overseas to a Primary supply source city in Italy (or Germany).

But the Germans cannot use Tripoli since it is a capital of an aligned (to Italy) minor country. That puts the German units (not on the coast) out of supply. As noted above, it Tripoli were the capital of a conquered minor country, then the Germans could use it as a Secondary supply source.

This stuff comes up every so often when the US or Commonwealth retake a capital of a French Vichy minor country in North Africa. If they liberate the minor and return it to Free France, then neither the US nor the Commonwealth can use the capital as a secondary supply source. If they liberate the minor but do not return it, then it becomes aligned to the liberator. And other major powers on the same side can't use it as a secondary supply source. If they outright conquer the minor, then all major powers on the Allied side can use it as a secondary supply source. Tricky bits.[8|]

If Badoglio were in a coastal hex, all would be well the German units' supply.

It only takes 10,000 or so lines of code to work out supply paths.[:D]
