In Window Mode is there any way to change the resolution. Currcnt I've got a small window in the middle of the screen.

Try changing the resolution of your monitor to 1280x1024. Unfortunately there is no way to script this for this game, so you need to physically change it through your system video properties, and then change it back when you are done playing.
