Bug or Feature: Aircraft Missions

Up until now I haven't paid attention to air units and their missions. But now I've noticed some strange things happening to the various missions of aircraft. In Editor I set the missions, but when I load the game the missions change, and in some cases the loss tolerances too.

Here's a pic. Notice the change from Editor to game play. Most alarming is that even when I change the mission from Air Superiority to Combat Support, the very next turn it reverts back to Air Super (these are fighter bombers that can do both). Apparently the icon symbols are affecting the type of missions that these units can fly?

I've noticed this on other aircraft symbol types as well: for example Jet Fighters on air super, If I change it to Combat Support it will revert back to Air Super the next turn.

Is this supposed to be like this?

Try turning OFF the Air Assistant.

Try turning OFF the Air Assistant.

That's it, thanks. I haven't a clue how the heck I hired an Air Assistant, but he and his staff have been fired.

I have found a use for the Air Assistant. Whenever I'm at a loss to know where the best targets are I turn on the Air Assistant, confirm that Elmer has set the missions for the aircraft units, and then turn the Air Assistant off again. THEN I take a minute or two to go through the aircraft assigned a mission to make sure it's not stupid or suicidal. I've seen bombers assigned AS missions and fighters assigned missions despite being in red health. If you're playing FITE2 it might take a while to go through the entire fleet. But Elmer has the ability to determine which targets are the better ones, more or less. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the great tip. I knew it must of had some practicality. [&o]
