cannot start game after latest patch

win 10 , new install ; version1.00 works ok , after installed newest patch (march 20th) unable to start, get constant system error,witw will not start; error states "cannot find steam_api.dll" ; I did not buy it from steam , tried to start as admin , turned off steam , restarted pc all to no luck ; I have uninstalled witw to await rescue ; thanks for any help

It appears that a file was left off the latest installer. This file was added a few years ago but got left out recently by mistake. Just unzip the attached file into the same directory as your game exe. The default directory for the exe is Matrix Games/Gary Grigsby's War in the West. This file should get you past this problem. Matrix is working on updating the installer to fix this. Sorry for the inconvenience.

This has now been corrected in the revised 1.02.56 update file so as long as you get the latest update you shouldn't have the missing steam file problem. If you already got the steam file after running the intial 1.02.56 update, no need to do it again.
