I prefer Admiral Halsey's barge ...

Wasn't expecting that much when I visited although I never need much of an excuse to visit the Hill Country. The museum was way better than I thought.

It's one of the finest WWII museums and surrounding grounds that I've ever seen. I've been there half a dozen times and I always run out of time. [8D]

Been there and really enjoyed the Museum. Also the local Fredrecksburg is a pleasant little town with some good cafes and the Guadalope River not too far away for river tubing or canoeing. Go - Have some Fun, and see the Museum.

Many years ago, I was prowling around the surrounding grounds.

There was a Priest-type (105mm on a Sherman body) and I think a Type 95 (or 97?) Jap Tank which I could crawl over and peer into.

Lots of Japanese uniforms, weapons.
An open/unshielded (I think? 5in?) ship mounted AA gun you can sit in the Aiming Seat.
The Japanese Mini-Sub.

Lots and lots to see, well worth the trip.

I ran out of time when I visited as well.

I hear the museum in New Orleans is pretty good. Haven't been to it myself despite going there multiple times; somehow, I always end up on Bourbon Street. [:D]

Alcohol related/fueled events seemed to take up a lot of time when I visited New Orleans as well.

Has anyone been to the Army Field Artillery Museum at Fort Sill? I don't get out much anymore but I'd like to see all the self-propelled artillery they have there and it's not too far away.
