Portugal

Hello
Maybe I'm coming back to a topic long gone and bereft of any interest, but :
Does anybody regularly declare war on Portugal with the CW if Gernamy does not seem to be going for a Spain + Gibraltar strategy ?
It may cost a US entry chit, but the Axis has a hard time reinforcing Portugal, Portugal has few units, a resource, a great major harbor adjacent to two sea zones, which enables the CW to rebase its short ranged planes to Lisbon, then to the Mediterranean thater.
Any other drawbacks ?

Best Regards

There are, I think, three things to be careful of when attacking Portugal:
- To make sure you go in with enough force to take out Lisbon, ideally on the turn you declare war
- To make sure you can seize the Azores ASAP - nothing worse than the Germans sneaking a transport through the blockade and dropping a unit in there
- To make sure you can deal with its overseas possessions so they can't become nuisances via territorial unit builds (if you're playing with that)

The last one isn't possible. The Portuguese haven't got TERR units. Only if the Portuguese set up the GAR in such a country, it might become a problem (slow as it is, it isn't totally harmless to the CW)...

Another thing is US entry. 50% chance of losing an entry chit can be a lot, especially when there are a lot of high value chits in the US entry pools. So it depends also on what Uncle Joe wants to do...
