7.1, 1941. 3000p, and with these guys, that's a crapload of units.

To be honest, I have no knowledge of the capabilities or strength/weaknesses of the Romanian army, so this will be fun. I went foraging through the OOB in the purchase phase, it looks fun so far.

In early 1941, with almost all troops bound for the buildup at the eastern frontier, Germany was suddenly faced with a new problem; the Spanish begun to rattle their arms, the gruesome civil war fresh in memory. With no troops available to quench the uprising that could possibly spill over into Vichy France, the OKH dispatches a brigade of Romanian units (who already joined the axis forces I hope )

While the Romanians set off to Spain dreaming of good whine, delicious food and warm summer nights with beautiful girls, they quickly had to snap out of it. Snow! Lots of it! A biting wind chills through the bone, freezing equipment and making life miserable.

Slooowly they start their advance to capture an important village in a rocky area in the highlands. Enemy troops are confirmed to be advancing on the same location. It's a race..well - a crawl - through the deep snow to get there first.

First round sees little action - our artillery bombs the enemy without really putting an effort into it and placing some smoke at nice locations. NS artillery pound our central ridge, killing a scout that couldn't get away.

(to our surprise, the Spanish could deploy as far as in the middle of the battlefield - with two VH clusters within their boundaries. )

Yes, the Spaniards have their eyes set on the vast vineyards of France and the is nothing but the Romanians standing between them and wine heaven!


Our troops advance forward toward their objectives and luckily two of the "clusters" were very close to our start lines. Some arty prep fires are hitting significant areas but no effects are seen. Where are the Romanians???

While the enemy 149s now concentrate on what I guess they suspect to be an artillery position, we continue forward.

Slowly I might add - pace is undisclosed, but it's sloooow.

In the center, Romanian biker gangs scrambled from the streets of Bucharest and pressed into combat discover a Spanish wagon train. What is this - Oregon? :p They try to shoot the settlers up, but it seems the wagons only contains contraband like HMGs and field artillery... hmm...

Well the soup wagon apparently got lost and was surprised by some MC squads! Don't know what's worse...the Spanish cooking or the Romanian's accuracy!

The snow has certainly slowed things down a bit although the MC squads seem to be zipping along.

Spaniards are slowly moving towards their objectives staying on the lookout for the elusive enemy infantry.

Hey, they're bikers! We only hired them for their cool looks, guess we should have given them a lesson in how to handle a firearm as well.

But they're really quick, so I'm glad I brought them along. They zip forward to capture the central VHs, now with a thick smoke screen between them and the Soup wagon.

I see you brought some fast people in as well. My, those horsies are really quick on their hooves. Unfortunately, they seem to bring some really spicy firewater with them, and they treated my lads for some. They went up in flames. :p

Way back in the hills, we see that the Spaniards brought a whole field kitchen of that gut-busting soup the riders already treated us. It moves by itself. Devilry!

Meanwhile, my so-called spotter got carried away. If my own guys doesn't move soon, they're in for a REAL surprise....

Cavalry sqd stuck their noses over a ridge and got them shot off for the trouble. Spotted a few tanks on the field all heading towards me. It looks like the Romanians took some lessions from their German friends in the art of Blitzkreig!

Cavalry also took some arty as well...reports say it was probably 150mm's or so.

Romanian bikers (with their stunning looks) races over the south hill chasing the horsies away and securing a VH in the process. Legion troops are seen - elite infantry. :p

In the central massif, the bikers reposition to avoid Spanish mortar fire, and catches Legion squads out in the open in the village. After a one-sided fire "exchange", the spaniards turn their tail and flee.

Apparenlty unimpressed by their biker brethren, the Romanian artillery workers call it quits and refuses to even pick up the radio. I need them NOW!

Well for some reason the Legion troops forgot to load their weapons! Now they have returned fire and sent a MC squad packing. Also another squad caused some hits on a MC squad in the south. Some mortars were called in on MORE MC squads.....sheesh!

Realizing that there actually is an ememy out there has made my boys a bit nervous. You can tell from their shooting. :rolleyes:

We snag the rest of the south VHs, but artillery is STILL out of reach, so it's going to be tough to hold on to them. Lots of enemies everywhere, maybe a company of Legion troops?

Advancing in the north, while the center bike gang is pounded by enemy mortars.

A Brave AT team gets in a kill on an R1 tank and a MC squad takes some fire in the center. The Spaniards are holding at the moment but the snow is making it difficult to advance.

Several turns of artillery fire is starting to show - my bikers are routed. Tough guys, eh? :rolleyes: A squad took a casualty from splash damage _every_ time a 149 shell landed in an adjacent hex. A tank platoon nearby diverges to help up the situation.

In the north, we're closing in on the prize. Light resistance, only a few very stubborn infantry squads so far. They've dug in deep.

Southern VHs are still ours, but not for long I guess. Well, it's a diversion and I think I stalled Overlord for a turn or so. :p

Well it seems the AT rifle team need to get more practice!

Right now it looks like there is a big armor push for the northern VH. The center VH have been under arty fire as there was a large group of MC units in the area. An AC has retaken one of the Southern VH hexes by running off a MC squad.



*Did we decide anything on reenforcements? Just wondering as I don't remember saying anything about them.


note 1 trying to attach a turn to see if I can upload now since I couldn't earlier. This is an earlier turn so it's only here for testing.

Note 2---- Hmm, it worked.....but it wouldn't last night....I'll try to keep posting turns here..if I can't get them to work I'll email them to you but still put the DAR report here.

Things are getting tough. Our green but brave tankers are suffering heavily from Spanish ATR fire. In the north we run into prepared positions and with the infantry far behind it's tough for the tanks to defend themselves.

Center motorcyclists are down. Spanish artillery hits hard, but falls short and kills more of their own.

In the south our little expedition sees its second MG tank destroyed and they have to concentrate on not getting shot up entirely.

Overall, the total green-ness of the Romanian army is starting to show. My commander has a whopping 60 experience and 53 morale - and he's the best guy around. :rolleyes:

Well, the Spaniards seem to be holding for the moment and doing some local counterattacks. In the south a few MC squads got shot at and forced them back while my cav squads are heading for the barn!

Mental note to self: Romanians sucketh. :rolleyes:

In the north, our armor is stopped by two ATRs. Two. *sigh* We're waiting for the infantry to bring them new underwear...:p

In the south, the Spaniards have dragged a Infantry Gun out in the street. Bikers are under heavy fire.

Center shows some progess (much thanks to the Spaniard shelling themselves) as two tanks join the fray. A legion squad is chased away and we manage to break the company Salsa wagon.

And to add insult to injury, the entire artillery calls for a break and our bikers head home to re-stock on Jim Beam as they're all out of it. :rolleyes:

Well the Spaniards are greatly offended at the loss of the mobile salsa wagon. They take revenge by killing a tank in the north and are pushing hard to maintain a hold on their relativley thin position there.

A MC squad gets taken out in the South while reclaiming the VH's.
