Are countries playable (SU, France or Italy) or only Axis / Allies (western) / USSR ?
Hotseat mode is playable on country or on Axis/Allied Level?

You can play any of the major power countries. There are just 2 sides, Axis and Allies.

There is hotseat, PBEM traditional, PBEM++ system via Server, vs A.I.

Via regular old email PBEM as many as you want.

Just to be clear a side goes then the other side. So if you want 3 people playing Allies and 2 Axis you simply do your turn, save the game, email it to your partner.
When he is done he does the same or emails it to the other side player. Once end of turn is clicked in PBEM it saves a file.

Would it be possible to have the PBEM++ system automate that?

Ideally, you might have a third player playing as the Russians.

There was an Avalon Hill magazine called "The General". One article, about 3R, has one player playing as the Italians. He had his own victory conditions so he had to make moves against Axis interests to achieve his victory conditions! It was a great read!

PBEM++ in the game isn't setup that way for 3+ players.
