Strange Occurence with CVB Midway Corsairs

When CVB Midway entered all 36 planes in its Corsair squadron were not enabled. I assumed without checking that they were disabled and would become enabled as the ship transited the Pacific to link up with the Death Star. Midway arrived on station with the DS off the coast of Kyushu and the Corsair squadron still has no enabled planes. I finally thought to examine the squadron and discovered all 36 planes are in reserve status with no buttons allowing me to move them. It appears there is nothing I can do to impact the reserve status of these planes and Midway will have no more available fighters than an Essex class carrier.

The Corsair squadron with all planes in reserve and no ability to affect it.

Click on "no resize allowed" and change it's size to 36. It's set to zero for some reason.

Hats off to the Gorn. Also you will probably need to move the ship to a port....GP

Not completely, I used an apostrophe on "it" for the possessive.

Yes, Midway will have to make a port call to re-size the group.

I don't think it does. If he sets it to resize this turn, then next turn it should resize.

Well, you are a Gorn, English is not your first language.

I don't think it does. If he sets it to resize this turn, then next turn it should resize.
In my experience with group resizing, the ship must be either docked or in port. And I think Port size and supply level have an effect.

7.3 AIR GROUP RESIZING
Some groups can be resized during the game.
The resize takes affect if the group’s ‘Resize Allowed’ toggle is ‘On’ and the group is located in
a base with a size 1+ airfield and the base’s supply is at least twice it’s requirements.
The size and date that the resize will occur is shown on the group screen.
A message is recorded in the Operations Report when a resize takes effect.

Well, Hans Bolter will inform all of us if it resizes before making port or not. You can give the order at sea, I think it will happen at sea in a case like this. A CV (or CVB) is it's own port and airfield and requires no help from a port that has run aground somehow. You won't take on extra planes to fulfill the resize til you're in range of a replacement squadron that is land bound.

The resize can take place overnight as the turn runs. If the squadron is set to resize and all other conditions are met, the resize can take place immediately when the carrier or its TF is disbanded into port. In this case, the "resizing" message is added to the bottom of the operations report immediately. The TF can then be immediately reformed to embark or disembark squadrons, resize additional squadrons through the same mechanism or set sail.
One can super-size two squadrons per day using this mechanic. Resize one on board at start of turn and fly [or dock and crane] it off, fly the next one on and resize it. Then fly the next day's squadron on.

May as well resize the other groups at the same time to get something that equals 137.
What do others do here?
Maybe 45 each of Bearcats and Corsairs still leaves 47 to split between DB/TB.
With 36 torp sorties I’d probably leave the 18 Avengers and increase DB to 29.

Re-size does not occur at sea. With shipboard air groups, it happens aboard ship at a base/port with level 1+ AF and 2X base supply.

There is no need to disband carriers to resize. I've never done that. It can be convenient to do it while docked but I rarely do that. The convenience arises when you wish to load a squadron on to resize where not all its planes are not in maintenance or damaged. Also to offload a squadron that's already resized but some of the planes will need cranes to get off. Now gorns don't typically get off on cranes (especially sandhill cranes) but there are always exceptions. It is actually possible to do this while the carrier is in drydock undergoing upgrade but I always (when I remember to) offload all squadrons before going into drydock. Having planes aboard can retard upgrade operations, sometimes severely, especially if you have a full complement aboard.

Disbanded or not. Just as long as the CV is at a port....GP
