Hello all, brand new here so I have a lot of questions...

first one, I don't understand the navy game. I play Axis and Allies and HOI, but I don't understand what the difference is in ships, and I don't understand how I can defend or protect my flat tops when the enemy ships can just go around my fleet.
I am too used to stacking units I guess but i am not sure how to go about it in this game.

Any help would be much appreaciated.

thanks
slo

Like land units, each has a different set of values. Battleships are very powerful. BC (Battle Cruisers) and CA (Heavy Cruisers) and the next level respectively. Then you have CLs (light cruisers) and DDs (destroyers). Finally you have MTBs (motor torpedo boats, although I was not aware they had the anti-submarine warfare abilities they have here.

That said, I do feel naval units can move way too far and surface ships way to strong. However, I think that is because each turn is really a month. I feel the land war is generally pretty solid. Not sure on the naval. I feel ZoC should be larger in naval and some other issues.

Hi Slo. I am a newbie too.

Playing the Japanese I had some success in my first full game by keeping my carriers mostly in port in the Singapore/Borneo/Java waters. You are alerted to the approach of allied ships by your occupying land units which enables you to get in the first strike and sink a few. I am not sure the AI is terribly good at the naval war in the Pacific as all it did was keep charging at the Dutch East Indies, with no preparatory island-hopping attacks.

I have not yet played either side in the battle of the Atlantic so I know even less about that [:)]

Hi slo,

Take a look at this where I discuss a bit about my understanding and approach to the naval game: tm.asp?m=4601394&mpage=1&key=&#4601461
