Error Message for PBEM

When I tried to start my current PBEM game today the following message appeared.
"PBEM++Online server requires version 1.1603 in order to continue. Please upgrade your game to the latest versio
I then installed the update and now at the bottom right of the splash screen it shows 1.1603. When I tried to start the PBEM game after the update, the above error message came up again. The forum indicates the update was released August 28 but we have been trading moves subsequent to that date without problems. My friend has the Steam version so I wonder if his didn't auto update? However since it is not even allowing me to connect to the server I wouldn't think that his version is the problem.
