HQ CAS, does it work?

Currently using Beta 1.036, and for some reason the HQ CAS doesn't seem to be working. Helicopters that have been called go to the proper Battle Positions but don't seem to respond to any HQ CAS requests.
Maybe I'm missing something simple. I select the HQ units flag, click on the orders button at the bottom of the screen and then select HQ CAS. I see the message at the bottom of the screen but there is no change to any of the on screen helicopters behavior, they simply remain at the BP's that were assigned.

Are these gunship helicopters, not scouts? If you're using the formation flag, is the HQ unit still attached to the formation?

Yes these are gunships, AH-1 Cobras, tried all variants. Yes the HQ is still attached.
I created a couple different scenarios and called in the CAS right away when my HQ's were all intact and some most not taking any enemy fire yet so yes still attached.
One scenario I made the map large enough that the HQ unit I was trying to get to call the CAS was well away form any BP's. The unit was a company of Bradley M2's and the HQ and all units under it were attached and hadn't moved one bit. They were well clear of any enemy contact as well. I called in the Helicopters and they went to the first BP which was well away from the M2 unit. I then used the M2 HQ to order "HQ CAS" and the helicopters didn't react at all they just stayed at the original BP position.

I tested with the game I was playing, seems fine my Apache. But I tested player HQ unit, so I'm not sure about other HQ units on the field.
"Attached" here is not related about intact or taking enemy fire or not. If you see your HQ unit's boundary is in red colored square (or circle) then your HQ is not attached. You need to select that HQ unit and select menu and select "reattach".

If you don't want to reattach then you can select the individual HQ unit (not the formation flag) and then call the CAS.

The only way I can get the HQ CAS button to show is if I select the HQ flag, selecting just the HQ flag UNIT doesn't give me the HQ CAS button.
I have tried every combination I can think of, even tried using Apache's and still the helicopters just go to the first BP and sit there and engage.
I guess the question is what exactly should the helicopters do once the HQ CAS button is selected? Should the helicopters leave the BP they are currently at and fly towards the HQ requesting the CAS? I purposely put the 1st BP far away from the requesting HQ just so that it would be obvious if the helicopters moved towards the requesting HQ.
Is it correct that the helicopters should be sent to the BP first? Clicking on the HQ CAS without any of the helicopters already moving towards the BP doesn't do anything, they just continue to wait, which makes sense because you don't have an option of which group actually enters.

You must use a HQ formation (e.g. 'M2 HQ') or the HQ unit with the blue command radius circle around it for HQ CAS.

Ok that was the issue, I was mistaken thinking that flagged "0" units were considered "HQ" units for the particular formation they were part of. The next question is that if only actual "HQ" units can call for CAS why is the button present for the "0" formation flagged units?
thanks for clarifying.

In the current design all orders and SOP options are visible if a formation or multiple units are selected. The main reason for this is that the states and available options can change in real-time, so it's much simpler to show them all.
If you select an individual unit that is not a HQ unit then the button is not visible, even if it has the flag or is the "0" unit.
