I'm finding the tilt angle restriction a pain is it possible it could be chnaged so we have more freedom. Currently it's difficult to see what's ahead without zooming right out, where as if we could tilt down lower would still be close to the action

you can, you can alter it to whatever you want as the engine is very user friendly

ok so more on the editing side of things to make it play or look view wise someway different, first backup the file, and remember and alteration can give you error's if you alter too much, so start with small edits and see how the game changes, over time you will get a view you like and can stick with and play with, each to their own so no one set is going to suit everyone else either, so play and enjoy, your game, so your choice, engines easy to learn how to alter, large alteration won't break the game, but will spoil it, as you can if you go silly move through mountains, so not all views and edits will work, so replace your backup if you make a mistake or update the game etc, so small and minor ones are much better with larger dafter settings altering, good luck
red means you can alter, if no arrow, don't, plain and simple

half the pitch gives you this view, so yes a black sky, but i can live with that
so from top to bottom, half would be 40/60 = 20/30 view, so yes maybe a few to many, so play with the numbers until you get one you like, halving it, is maybe too much for some and gives a large black sky view as well that what the designer would like to see

30/40 losses the black sky, but still gives you more of a advanced view forward, just for show tbh, your call to find one that you like

last one before the default one, is 25/40

so regarding pitch alone, the game plays however you like the view, if you think it could be better with a tighter zoom in or out, then try and see what else works for you, but for now the default view of the same battle

the sky isn't a game error, it's more of a engine one, as all games so far on the same engine if you alter the views manually do the same thing, so i'm guessing it was never meant to be used in such a high manner, so little alteration don't give the black sky view, as shown above, but for me, it's one of the things i care less about and do use rather a odd viewing angle tbh and like it, so far unless you alter the heights and depth of the views, it's not caused me any issues, if you do alter the height and depth and go larger and higher or lower for zooms, you can go in and out of objects, so then you need to rain it back in so not to get that high then you won't get the error either, but so far not crashed it, unless you really do something daft and go massive, then that's your fault anyway, so no support either[:-]
lol, and not something i recommend, just answering a question by a friend in the open

So MUCH better. I prefer having no sky. See things much clearer.
Honestly try out my settings people. ALways chnage back if you don't like. Noiw I can fully see the different elevations..infact it's surprising how big they are, not noticeable until you get right down. I can instaly tell which hill overlooks what and if anothe rhill is in the way.

when altering the views, remember the game was never made to work with all of them altered, so some maps with high mountains can becomes harder to use with a altered view, but flat maps can work with many alterations regarding the views, so like everything play with it and use it how you like and then if you have to alter it back for the higher mountains etc, or tone the view down abit, by then at least you know which and what to alter back etc, or copy the default back on any map your newer view doesn't like as much

I feel the game is only playable by adjusting the camera. I want to be down in the weeds. And have some terrain comprehension. The topo-info is a win.
Also, the list of units on the top left is not ideal. Maybe across the top of the screen horizontally, and move that victory slider somewhere else. I need that area when looking for enemy...it is just so claustrophobic at times.
Likewise, Maybe shrink the jump map so it pops up bigger only if the mouse goes over it? Again, taking up real estate on the screen.
It would be nice to have 'transparent-trees' that don't block sight when you are so close to them. Like Combat Mission.
I see potential, but I see some need for a great UI since it is Real-Time.

Thank you, gentlemen. This looks pretty darn good, and with scenario editor intact, my doubts have been assuaged. I also count 17 units in Zak's screenshot, which is just about perfect for the micro required. Combat Mission 2x is great, but unit counts and micro can be daunting. Thanks!

So, you have played the game?

you can breaks the squads down somewhat more and have 20+ to control, so not really more units, just broken down to smaller units to do different tasks if you so wish and the battle playing says you can, with different stuff added to the squads, like more or different equipment, the list can be quite longer, but still more than manageable for me as it's pausable real time, and can still order and do stuff on pause, so makes it easier imo that a pure RTS

This thread should be stickied. Very useful and important change.
How do you get the top down view, Zac? Can't find that.
