illuminating illumination test results

Post by headcount_slith »

Are illumination rounds working as intended? In the test pictured below German infantry advancing towards the VLs in the centre are spotted at approx. 115m when an illumination round is overhead (A), and at approx. 115m when I don't fire an illumination round (B). It's not a LoS issue (left in their default positions the US force can see the ground over which the German unit must advance).

This test and similar ones also reveal other issues. If I fire an illumination round directly over the small German deployment area you'd expect their two Tigers to be spotted, but in fact they remain unseen even when they move.

Here's the pictured scenario.

Here's the same issue illustrated on another map. The Germans deploy in small area circa A and attack from right to left. When I see the first VL flip (B) and a wall crumble moments after I know there's a Tiger advancing and send up an illumination round.

The round reveals nothing. More walls are crumbled by the invisible Tiger which then crosses some arbitrary spotting threshold circa 115m from a US unit and is spotted (C).

Just to put this in plain English - a Tiger tank has just managed to cross an illuminated area 150m from well-appointed, stationary US inf units unobserved. This shouldn't happen in a CC game.
