Map/Setup: this was a good map for defense!

LOS:

Overview: It didn't take long for US forces to show up! As you can see, they are advancing along two lines!

Action Shot: US troops on the Move!

Expecting the Forward Team to walk to the main road, they seem to take a shortcut with a left turn towards my position in the trees! NOT what I was expecting! [:)]

US troopers then 'hit the dirt' as a mortar barrage begins...

US Troopers advance into the trees while the shelling continues.. German (ambush) order arcs visible.

Action shot as another shell lands close by!

Ad-hoc opens up and a fire-fight begins. Mortars continue to hit close by!

US troopers are overwhelmed by direct fire. One survivor surrenders to ad-hoc.

Reinforcements show up and I'm forced to reposition... heavy fighting for a prolonged period.

I still had my precious MG42's set to ambush and did not notice that they were taking direct fire from (I believe), the American position waaaaaaaaay down the road. Changing their orders to DEFEND, I exchanged fire for a bit and decided to pull them out for a quick recovery.

The US Troopers kept advancing and I finally had to throw some smoke to withdraw. The Americans began to exploit an opening near the bridge. The now re-positioned MG42 began a DIRECT-FIRE attack to close the gap!

Both MG42's now have a clear LOS into the American position and stop any advance towards the bridge...

> Earlier, the US trooper who had surrendered (he had been following the ad-hoc team) eventually walked across the Heumen Bridge (with hands up and white handkerchief in hand) and headed towards the German position. After that, I lost track of him.

Heavy fighting continues in the forest! Initiative slowly turns toward the Germans.
