I checked the tech faq., didnt see anything referring to this.....any assistance would be appreciated.


Its a brand new install form the matrix my page game collection to my new win 7 laptop, with the latest [PC] Update v2.02 patch installed.

I tried starting from the main splash screen, east front west front RS clicked on each game after a a few minutes in turn, nothing happened, I went to the folder and tried using the game exe and got the error below, nothing in the error file.

I found this online but, when I go to the page it doesn't say anything regards WIN 7...

"Reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages on your computer"


humm wait....searched again....

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7 (Offline Installer) for Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2016 ..


I\ll try this tomorrow...out of time right now....unless someone has a better idea..?

From the FAQ (third topic):

"The program has failed to launch" or "The application has failed to start" -- Why?


This is aka the "side-by-side" error.

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."

Most likely, you don't have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package.

Make sure you get the right version for your system architecture (32 vs. 64 bit)!

I clicked the link which it thankfully still working, however, it doesn't ask re: 32 vs 64 and doesnt mention win 7

My game machine is a dell 5430 latitude, win 7 64x ..(I can get you the build when I get home), any chance you can direct me to the update I need please?

I just want to point out is goes thru the trouble of naming OS's but doesn't mention WIN 7 and there are no versions offered, its one file...if you or berto say this is the one, I'll go with it, I just want to be sure....

sorry, I am just really trying to figure this out on my own, I have no issue learning etc etc .....

I read an article re; MS C++ Visual, so this link leads to a x86 version, meaning its for 32 bit , not 64 bit ...

Also that ones computer can have loads of versions as they can be loaded by new programs etc. that one acquires etc.


Also via some quirk, in your program features listing, you can have both 32bit(x86) and 64bit(x64) versions installed, but, if you have 32-bit version of Windows, you won’t see those 64-bit versions of the redistributable...... But if you have a 64-bit version of Windows, you’ll see both versions, because a 64-bit Windows can run both 64-bit and 32-bit applications....lol....man you coders sure are a weird bunch...

So, back to square 1.5

I run 64 bit win 7, which MC C++ Redistrib. package should I DL? A link would be mucho appreciato...

Hi Berto, I installed, and, no dice...same error.....

All I can suggest at this point is to open a ticket with Matrix/Slitherine tech support. Debugging OS environment issues such as this one is beyond our purview.

Lol, I'll do my best John..... hopefully, matrix/slitherine will show enough interest...the game is very old and not exactly flying off the shelves

Fixed it myself.

Did some reading on C visual, tough sledding if you dont have a tech. background and use it but, there a few sites that spoke in plain english.
etc etc.

I started by looking at the C++ Redist. packages I had installed on my 3 other computers that can Run the game.

I decided I'd mirror them and DL every years package that they had installed. Not easy becasue it took some serious searching re: the way they (MS) framed the names and repacked some of the older ones were head scratchers at times.

The keys appear to be; you need both the 32 bit ( signified by x86 for whatever inane reason MS had, yes I know it refers to a processor series;) ) and the 64 bit signified by 64x for whatever package year for consistency, dont uninstall any that exist, ensure every year has a x86 and an x64 mate. I DLed 5 on my last try ( odd number, I was missing a x86 for 2013) and , viola it worked. If anyone wants to know the 5, let me know....

I am converting a rig to win 10 soon, hopefully it will let me upgrade instead of having to do a total new install.............I hope I a not in for another snipe hunt.

JTCS is an old (2007) game (but still good), this is probably why you need the 32-bit version and not the 64-bit version ?
