FOW Question

In fairness, haven't bought this game (yet, but damn interested) ….

Looking for clarification as to the current FOW approach ….. From my uneducated read, FOW is limited to strength of units but not presence of units regardless of distance …. So land units or sea units are visible over thousands of miles thought strength may not be known … or more to the point, the lack of units will be obvious …. Is this correct ?

Another example, if a german fleet or subs heads to the atlantic, is obvious to the brits but not the strength ? So they can merely chance after it until they have sufficient recon to attack ?

Hoping my read of FOW is wrong as it lacks the need for one side or another to scatter assets to "look" for the other guy …. This would be particularly important for a Pacific expansion of this game ….

I am impressed with the feedback for this game thus far...… btw

So far during my play. All units can be seen, so Yes, I know where the sub is that is attacking the convoy route. This makes scene (abstractly) because in reality there are escorts and sunken merchant ships to back this up.

You can send out DD's or whatever to sink the sub but just becasue you sent out the ships doesn't mean you'll find the sub. So even though you know a sub is there you may never locate it and it will get away.

That's how it has been working for me. So far I've only played as Axis and my subs have stayed alive a lot longer than they ever did in SC3!

So if the Bismark/fleet makes a run for the Atlantic or (in a Pacific version of the game in the future), the entire British navy can chase the Bismark in a concentrated manner and a Pearl Harbor surprise raid would never happen as the US Fleet puts to sea and hightails it back to San Diego ?

Granted the FOW approach would likely be somewhat different for sea vs land …. but a boatload of games only expose what can be reconn'ed …..

With invisible units you have to play Battleship to find them. This makes it easy removing the need to move ships each turn in 50 different directions. You just need to spot the enemy fleet in deep sea which is very hard.

Yes you will need half the UK navy to find the Bismarck in the middle of the Atlantic.
