Is it possible to get a three-player game going with a Western Allies, Soviet Allies, and Axis players in an email game? If so can an Italian Axis player be added for a four-player email game?

That would be nice.

Not seeing that very functional in this type of game.
The Soviet player would sit idle for a HUGE amount of time. (And even if you give to a player France -and- Soviets it's not pleasant to be punching ball for that long)
A player having -only- Italy ... shallow experience.
I personally cannot see it working, but being a -possibility-, if some players want to play in that way, by all means.
The real question boils down, is the time invested in coding that productive, or better to code other things that expand / improve / better the game? (It is known most of the strategy games, unless coming directly from a tabletop tested game in the style of Matrix WiF, tend to reach adequate maturity and balance in a while and never in the first months past release).

As far as I know you can do it right now. Simply save the gamefile and send to your allied player who will complete the rest of the turn before sending it to the opponent player(s). Perhaps the game has to be configured as hot-seat and manually handling the emails, I don't know.

Yes that is the only way.

So to be clear, I can play with my buddies in France and Wales but we just have to transfer the save file manually and start the game as a hot seat game and completely avoid the Slitherine server?

How exactly does this work? The multiplayer is done by passing a file? It doesn't use the Slitherine server?

Correct. Here are the steps.
UK player does their turn and saves the game manually.
UK player sends the save game to the Russian player.
The Russian saves the game file manually.
The Russian player sends the game file to the Germany player (or USA).
ETC.
Not sure about the turn order but these are the steps involved. Whoever goes last for a side executes the turn and manually sends the file to the first player and the process starts all over again.

Is it possible to make a shared account on the Slitherine Server so that each player can go player their portion, then save it, etc.? The last person on the side would click the "End Turn" button?

End of Turn does the end of turn. I don't have a workable way to do it on the Matrix server.

No.
You could possibly share the same login for both sides and all players would use their side's login to do their turn. But you would still need to let them know that their turn was ready as the server would not indicate whose turn it was. So you might as well just send the files back and forth since you have to email everyone anyway.

I just would rather have the game handle the files so I didn't need to manually send files around like we used to do with PBEM games. I'll try this out and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the input!

It wasn't planned as a 3-4 way player game. Maybe I will adjust the code to use Matrix PBEM++ later. But I need time to do so. Right now I am focusing on bug hunting and have a list of requests. Once bug hunts are done I will look at it.
