Do Generals gain experience?

The answer to that is yes. In this screen shot you may have noticed that at the start of the 1939 scenario Germany's 3rd Army controlled by Gen. von Kuchler starts the game at Combat 7: Mobility: 6 and Tenacity: 5, in my screen shot you'll see his Combat value improved.
So it does happen over time, randomly:

Ah, this one of the many interesting features of the game. I've been waiting to see this. Do you know what if anything influences this? So anything a player could do that would increase the odds of a HQ increasing one of its three factors?

You know in all my playing and play testing I honestly don't know but I am assuming it has to do with influencing combat, so what I tend to do is keep my good HQ units (with good Generals) near the front so that the can have a chance to influence a battles outcome. I am assuming its random but the corps/divisions fighting have to be drawing from that HQ for stuff.
That is just my take on things and ymmv.

Okay, thanks. Something to keep an eye on.

From the manual, page 77:
In each battle fought in land combat, the general has a chance to increase mobility or combat attributes

Right, but that was not the question. The question was do General gain experience or improvements and the answer to that question is yes per my screen shot. What is not known is how that exactly works.

The question is in the title of your thread:
Do Generals gain experience?
And the answer is in the manual, pag.77
In each battle fought in land combat, the general has a chance to increase mobility or combat attributes

That works by probability, as the manual indicates: "a chance". What we don't know is the probability percentage.

And that is exactly what I was saying. Hence my post and the increased combat value gained.

I do not worry about what the manual says there may be errors. I can report what actually does happen and my experience with the game (since June).
Someone else asked the question "Do Generals gain experience?" To which I created this thread to prove or show that is indeed the case.

Thanks. I saw this but am unsure of the game mechanics of how it works. A HQ unit has a strength of 10 however they do not engage in combat (I tried [:D]). So maybe it is the combat of the subordinate units? The manual also states that there is a small chance a General in the HQ may be KIA. Since the HQ can't attack is this possibility of a general becoming KIA for when the HQ unit itself is attacked? Or something to do with the subordinate units again? Lots of interesting stuff to figure out. [:)]

The complete text from the manual explains that:
When a unit is in combat, it will locate the closest HQ to its location within 5 hexes to call upon its general for support in the battle. In each battle fought in land combat, the general has a chance to increase mobility or combat attributes. There is a very small chance a general will get killed in action. If this happens, a subordinate will replace him.
