Let's talk France 1939

Wimpy French infantry corps + muscle-bound German corps sitting on Siegfried line = no chance of French incursion into Germany while the Germans are over-running Poland. Cannot seem to find any kind of favorable odds for attack as the French, even taking heftier corps from the north. Thought I should at least be able to make a dent and bite off some German territory. Buff the French? Nerf the Germans? Am I being unreasonable?
Obtw, love the game experience. It is even better than I thought it would be.
