I am going to get back into this but I was wondering about the best way to learn this game? I don't think it has a tutorial? What do you guys think? Read the entire manual or just play and watch videos.

thanks

You can learn it just fine by playing it and reading the in game help, consult the manual for specific questions or even better, ask here, I think many here can still learn a thing or two about the game so discussion how to best approach things is always welcome in my opinion.
Maybe we can also get a thread started with tips for beginners and advanced players...

No tutorial?!? Why do developers continue to release complex games without a good, comprehensive tutorial.

This is very frustrating. Please spend the time to teach new players how to play your game, developers!

There are brief tutorial videos you can access on this forum.
The game includes an in-game text guide that is helpful. You can access it before playing or in-game.
There are also tutorials on Youtube including a very detailed 8-part, 4-hour series by DasTactic that I followed and that is very helpful. Here is the link to part one. Armored Brigade 1 of 8

In this case you SHOULD read the youtube comments though, since he makes tons of mistakes and some commenters point them out [:D]

DasTactic? Yes, I did, while I was playing. Good point. I still learned a lot from his series though. I've played several of his playthroughs with various games, and he is always learning as he plays. There have also been some updates to the game since his vidoes including of course the stacking limit update.

I'm one of those that usually 'never' reads a manual first but I did this time because this one is pretty small. That's how I would start anyway if I was recommending to others. That way you get familiar with where stuff is in the interface and your in game options like formations, SOP, etc. Don't try committing everything to memory, read through it once, then dive in.

IT's got a bit of a learning curve, but not too bad...I'm still trying to sort our what the different colored objectives and lines (green/gray/red) all mean....any clues?

This game currently cannot have a tutorial.

Since we have dynamic AI, he almost always employs either variations of the best suitable approach for a variety of parameters or adopts a totally different approach (es. reverse slope defence instead of forward defence etc.)

Hence, predictable pattern of behavior is not feasible until we introduce some form of scripted AI.

What I also suggest is playing ready missions in cronologic order, as they do teach you more complex features one by one (es. night fighting, bad weather, basics of combined arms combat etc.)

Yes, from simpler to more complex.
