Haven't seen it but never fall for the critics. With only one exception in the Sacramento area, Star Wars was rated as a bomb by every critic I read. Not even given a single star {1-5 star ratings at the time in local newspapers}. Ignore the critics.....unless they are from this forum. I wished I had listened to the forum before loosing a few precious hours of my life watching TMTSNBN.

It is at 48/100 at Metacritic, as of Nov 9th, 8pm EST

so at most it is mixed reviews; I normally check some positive, some negative reviews and that is then enough for me to decide if I would like it

The Movie That Should Not Be Named?

Well, considering the critics want to see drama, screenwriting etc. in a movie, and they evaluate it in this maner. I don't care about drama or characters actually, i wanna know how historicaly accurate did they portray the things that they wanted to show. I want to see the battle of Midway in all it's glory, with nagumo's dilema etc. I don't care for some backstage love story...

It wasn't bad. A few too many "dramatic license" moments for my tastes, but was definitely worth it.

I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. It focuses on the first six months of the Pacific War from the perspective of the USN with a focus on some pilots in VB-6 aboard Enterprise. I found no unforgivable howlers and most of abstractions made "movie sense" to tell the story to a general audience. However, I shudder to think at the fratricide on escorts from the AAA shooting at TBD's on the deck if they actually engaged with such tight spacing around the carriers. But the CGI was of the battle was good.

Never underestimate just how crazy a real story can be.

How about a guy who realizes his career is going nowhere just before we get into the war, leaves the Navy to join the American Volunteer Group, runs up a score building a solid reputation, comes home and gets sidelined by an officer with a grudge over his having left in the first place, bypasses the turd, gets back into the war, gets sent to the south Pacific, cobbles together his own squadron from spare planes, runs up a score, builds a reputation becoming a top ace, eventually gets shot down near Rabaul and and finishes the war in POW camp?

TMTSNBN refers to the happenings on 7 December 1941 near Honolulu on Oahu, Territory of Hawaii. Much of the action however precedes and comes after the title event. Strangely an actual battle took place on that date and in that place that has absolutely nothing to do with the movie.
