Do you revel in your victory or rage at the unfairness of defeat and have another go?


I have more scenarios than I could play in a lifetime, and several games with random scenario generators so I could have something different every time forever.

But like a dog returning to its vomit there are some that I just keep going back to - e.g.


Arrancourt 44 in The Operational Art of War
Last Flight of the Eagle - in Ageod's Napoleon's Campaigns
Gettysburg and Manassas in almost every Civil War game I have

I also have tons of scenarios. I normally do not go back to the same scenario. I sometimes play it again when I do not remember that I played it. This happens more often as I'm getting older [:D]

One weird thing. I like games with a random scenario generator. I always choose this over a fixed scenario. I do know that fixed scenario's have more challenge, but I like the unpredictability of a randomized scenario.

I think that Armored brigade has the best randomized scenario's. I even randomize the unit selection.

I too like games with a random scenario generator.

Advance Tactics and the first Combat Mission games are my usuals.
And of course Civilization - mostly Civ2 - but the games are too long for my attention span now.

I've got Armored Brigade too and like it - would love it if they could do a WW2 add-on as I'm finding all these electronic jamming and guidance weapons a bit unsporting.

I sometimes slightly randomize the scenarios in Command Ops by altering the location of the objectives but that if testing the limit of my modding skills (= non skills). Ah yes, also do same with Flashpoint Campaigns.

Have you played Civ4 yet? Game has a number of settings that affect # of turns and map size. Game also has a number of advantages over older Civs: new production and research make use of leftover production/research points from previous project while in older Civs new projects begin from 0.

Short answer, yes. Some I return to several times, some I play only once, depending on the initial experience.

On monster game scenarios I tend to play them over, especially practicing the best opening moves. On smaller scenarios (especially in more tactical games) after I see the enemy's deployment and tactics the FOW surprise is lost, these I tend to play only once. Games with scenario generators and multiple maps would offer the most re-playability, I don't think I own any like this though.

Have you tried John Tiller's Campaign Series?

Yes. If I liked them. Completely would play them more than once. I like to play the Grand Campaign in most games, and have played several more than once....

I haven't tried Arrancourt, but for replayability in TOAW I would suggest

The Next War 1979

Russo-German War

The Russo-German War seems to have a robust PO, the best PO I have played
Next War PO is not as robust, I play that solitaire a lot
