What/where is the sequence/buttons to tag to
a) load infantry unit in England and transport to French port ? Unit disappears when I try this but not sure where it went and how to access ? first turn, 1939 scenario ….
b) same question, but invasion approach ….
Just not obvious to me …...

The ground unit 'converts' in a naval unit.
Check the naval units in the hex - it should be among them (usually the last)

Unit converts to naval, to unload when you arrive at destination the unit that is the sea lifted will have a port symbol on the screen for it when viewing the unit, click that to unload. For invasions you need landing craft as well as transports. The size of the unit is how many landing craft you need, for example a large corps is 30 landing craft. When you reach the target area and are adjacent to beach hexes or on them click on the landing craft symbol on the unit this should high light the available beach hexes you can land on from that location. Land your unit be aware loading cost one action unloading costs another but usually you can make one attack after unloading or move.

Can the ground units deploy on the same turn ? Either for transport or invasion ?

The unit can not have just been made nor can it move to a port on the same turn it embarks. But yes you can embark and invade on the same turn.

So a pre-existing unit can't embark and debark between friendly ports on the same turn, but I can put them ashore (with landing craft) as an invasion on the same turn ?

Yes they can. I do it all the time. You can embark and debark the same turn.

As Twotribes pointed out, yes, you can embark and debark between friendly ports on the same turn as long as you start in a port and debark in a port. You can also embark and invade in the same turn but the distance to the invasion hex must be
24 hexes or less.

A unit starting the turn in a port can embark there and debark in same turn in another friendly port. If a unit moves in port cannot then move as convoy out of it

For a naval invasion do you embark with the landing craft or do you embark with Transports? I could only embark with transports then moved to beach hex then could do nothing further. Within the 24 hex limit.

To transfer you need to click on the interface of the fleet and select landing craft this will highlight the hexes available to invade.
