A Crazy TOAWIII Story

So, I have been playing TOAW off and on since TOAW II, but I missed out on TOAW III.

I've always wanted TOAW III just to complete my collection of TOAW games (still need a TOAW I disc), but when I wanted to buy it recently, it showed "discontinued" in the store. I tried asking the Matrix people, but they said, "NICHTS!! OBSOLETE!!!"

Anyway, today I was noodling around the Matrix store, and looked at the "My Games" page, and saw ...

TOAW III .... awaiting your download.

Thinking about it ... trying to understand why it was now available for me to download ...

I *think* what happened was, when I bought World in Flames computer version some five or so years ago, I must have also purchased TOAW III ... BUT FORGOT ABOUT IT AND NEVER DOWNLOADED IT!!!!

Last I remember, I played ACOW solitaire "Next War" for old time's sake, about five or more years ago. That must have been when I bought TOAW III. BUT NEVER DOWNLOADED IT!!!! That was a time when I was working 60 - 80 hours a week and traveling a lot, so it is conceivable that I just forgot.

Until today. I'm almost scared to install it LoL.

So, either I bought it and forgot, or somebody did and made it available to me.

Either way, thanks to the mystery buyer, even if it was me! LoL :)

I bought IV at release and just installed it a couple months ago.

Me too! I waited a year until the first patch dropped, then finally remembered it.

Even then, Larry had to slap me around until I figured how to do the patch!!

Good times. Hit me up for a PBEM game if you want, email or on the server.

I am retired (finally!) so now I spend all those former "working" hours playing TOAW.

I like Next War / CfNA / FitE or Normandy. Have wanted to try Shiloh, too. I'm not so hot at CSV, I can't figure that one out, but I have been trying some of those solo games for it. I can't remember what it is called -- oh, it is Vietnam Combat Operations -- the one that has like eight downloads and the cool manuals.

That's why I wanted TOAW III so much, for VCO.

Yes, indeed. Now, if I can just find that one McBride scene ....

I think it was called "Drang nach Osten", I downloaded a file for it a few months ago ...

but I could not get it to work with IV

also, am still looking for that "Wacht am Rhein" scenario ... it was a Battle of the Bulge scene, I distinctly recall playing that in ACOW or II, but I cannot for the life of me find it now ....

Maybe Santa will drop those on me, too.... well, in the mean time, I have TONS of scenes for III on a disc I need to get working.

I finally have all the time in the world! Life is good!

I retired back in 1992, almost 28 years ago now, and I can assure you that it is not all it is said to be. You will still never have time to do all the things you want to. I wish I had time for a vacation.

Beginning to get that feel here, only a few years in. I go to the library, see all the books I want to read now that I have "time" for it, get my books and then see all the scenes in TOAW that I want to play, then I have to do yard work, chauffeur, cook, clean ... retirement is hard work!!
