Thinking of Picking this up on the sale...

Is any of the AI implemented?
Is this only 2 Players?
I have been wanting to pick it up, for $20 its not a bad price. But don't know how much I'd play it if it was not automated at all.
Is it pretty much just the board game converted over to be able to play it on the PC (kind of like any VASL modules?)?
Thanks for any help...

There is no AI

The key thing is that all the rules are built in. You don't have to figure out supply, you don't have to count oil usage, and you don't have to figure out which planes are in range of a battle or a sea zone -- the computer does that for you.
Basically it is the board game on the computer, but it is a lot easier to play than the board game.

I`m a bit tempted as well even though it has no AI. For me the only option would be to play solitaire but I`m not sure how interesting that would be long term. Hmmm....

No - you can play be PBEM with as many players as you like

For $200 this game is a steal. Best. War game. Ever. FACT
$20 - that's ridiculous and not even something to consider, just do it man [;)].

No. MWIF will do the chores like supply, movement restrictions, battle values etc. It's no VASL.
Thanks for any help...

Because of the game mechanics (no guaranteed strategies), even solitaire is a whole lot more fun than should be the case. For this price I'd seriously give it a go.

The AI is close to the next task on the list for Steve, the developer. Much preliminary work has been done on it already by WiF experts.

I just picked this game up as well! THANK YOU MATRIX..[:)]
The closest experience I have had playing this type of game would be AH Rise and Decline of the Third Reich, 3rd Edition. I'm looking forward to combining different strategies.
A++ for having tutorials and an "WIF School" on your forum.
best

For $20, probably why not, although learning the game is a huge time commitment in addition to the $$.
While many people here seem to like the game alot, I have to say that after spending quite a bit of time reading the rules and messing around with the game, I found that I did not care for the unusual land/sea/air turn system, nor for the fact that there were no Europe-only scenarios (which were supposed to be delivered long, long, ago), only the whole war including the Pacific.

Believe me, if you enjoyed
Rise and Decline of the Third Reich then you're going to love this.
World In Flames knocks the former out of the park on every level.

I'm on the edge too, as usual, knowing that it will be another monster game that i will not have time to play (see GG war in the east/west), but for 20 euros... [:D]
Since there's no AI I would play it solitaire; never done that, but what worries me is: is the learning curve so steep as it seems? I usually manage to play one hour in the morning and/or in the evening but this seems so huge... and is the manual/documentation updated? trying to figure out what's going on by reading an obsolete pdf is rather frustrating..

The manuals are not obsolete at all. But the game itself has a steep learning curve...

I have enjoyed playing MWiF solitarie more than any other game against AI. One of the things I like the most is that it's coming from a boardgame, so everything is visible (rolls, tables, probabilities...). In other games, things happen and you don't even know why you failed a combat: was my strategy poor? did I miss some of the rules? was I unlucky with the dice?

The game definitely has a steep learning curve. However, the two learning scenarios (Barbarossa and Guadalcanal) can help you get the feel for the land/air and naval/air operations, respectively. And you'll save a lot of time not having to set up counters.

Thank you all, i think i'll give it a try because this seems different: i've never played a wargame in real life and this could give the 'feeling'. Worst case, i learn something!

Working, from all accounts. I doubt it's entirely bug-free but few things are. As usual, regular saving is the way to go.

Thanks all!
I did pick it up, it's quite a steal at $20.
I (a long long time ago) had the red box World in Flames, I tried playing it a few times but in the end I traded to a friend for his copy of Advanced Third Reich. I think I messed with the first versions way back when Windows XP was around I think.
Thanks for all the help.
I'll play around with it here and there as I can.
Seems pretty neat.
