The netplay server has been instable from time to time. I noticed yesterday long waiting times and crashes.

it works great when the server is not playing up. And lately it does from time to time. Most of the time it works though

They were correcting some stuff on the server so it was down for maintenance. That doesn't happen very often (a couple of times a year?).

In this case, Gerry and I were able to resume our game after a delay of 3 or 4 minutes.

Last Thursday a friend and I tried to start an internet game for the first time but since then the Netplay forum says
"Unable to access Seeking Opponent database"

Any idea what is wrong?

Forgot to say: NetPlayReg is correct. Can it be that the server is down? Can't imagine, for such a long time.

I finally convinced a boardgaming friend to purchase MWiF so we could play via NetPlay.

I tried to access NetPlay this morning and am getting the "unable to access Seeking Opponent database" message. Does that mean the server is still down? Or is there another issue?

Btw, I have applied the latest Hot Patch.

Ardoba and stransky43:

Your problem lies in your NetPlayReg.txt file in the Matrix Games\World in Flames directory. ((Assuming you have registered the game and the serial number is in the NetPlayRegistration.txt file.)

The first two lines of NetPlayReg.txt must be a case sensitive match for your username and password respectively. When starting a new game the player names must be a case sensitive match for the usernames in that file. Stay away from symbols and spaces in both the username and password. If these are already present you may need Matrix customer support to help you change them. Non-English keyboard settings may also cause problems.

Something as simple as a capitalized username that is not capitalized in NetPlayReg.txt will derail you.

I have logged in and out of the NetPlay forum multiple times today without any error messages, but when I temporarily edited my password in NetPlayReg.txt (to test this), I got the identical error message you are reporting.

Thanks Paul.

My NetPlayRegistration.txt file has my game's serial number in it. However my NetPlayReg.txt file was empty, even though I filled out the form that asked for a username, etc when I first tried to access the forum

What username and password are supposed to be in there?

It's possible that you reinstalled the game at some point and that caused the empty file. I think that happened to me at some point. If it was in a different directory, you could try searching for that file and see if the original is still around somewhere. In my case I had an older computer with the game still on it and was able to retrieve it from that PC.

You could try your Matrix user name on line 1, your Matrix password on line 2. Not sure the next two lines matter but the third is your email address and the fourth is the region you indicated you were in when you first entered the forum. Quite some time ago Matrix/Slitherine initiated a single common username/password system, so that is the most likely combination that would work for you. However my entry dates from before that and so is a separate username/password combo -but it still works for me. You might have to get Matrix customer support to delete your entry on the server and then make a new one.

Thanks Paul. The game has only ever been installed once, so there's only one place the file could be.

I've tried a multitude of username/password combinations in the file to no avail. I guess Matrix tech support is the only choice.

Contacted Matrix support and after a number of attempts to diagnose the issue, it was recommended to uninstall and re-install the game.

That worked.

Paul, thanks for the hints.
Support team found what was wrong: I made a mistake at registration process. No chance to see it after that, but now it works.
