Possible bug: "Fighters can't locate target" message...

Hi all,

Every once and awhile (playing as Japanese) I see animation in "Combat Replay"
that my fighters flew over enemy base (port) and I get message that they were
unable to locate the target.

After that the fighters involved suffer extremely high fatigue (they go from
10 to 65+).

No bomber flew at all (their fatigue stayed the same as in previous turn).

Also please note that there was no abort due to weather.

This is very strange and I have no idea why is this happening... :-(

BTW, my fighters are set to "Escort" with low CAP percentage and there are
friendly bombers in base set to "Naval Attack" / "Rest".

Anyone else saw this happening?

Yes I've seen it but not very often. If you could get your hands on a save that repeats this that would be great.

Cheers
Dan

No save file... sorry... :-(

No save file... sorry... :-(

This is because it is PBEM game and my opponent's file overwrites my UV file
before I get to see "Combat Replay" happening (i.e. I play as Japanese)...

Hi Leo

Do you have old emails in your outbox? That way you could send me the USN turn that you send him with your IJN password (so that I can watch the replay later) and he could send me his. That way I could check if it happens again ..I tend to keep the last 10 emails from each opponent so that I can go back...

Cheers
Dan

Dan, I am sorry but I don't have it...

I use UNIX mainframe for my mail (no Outlook) and only sometimes Eudora.

Though I can ask Oleg (my PBEM opponent) if he has the moves
(he uses Outlook)...

Hi all,

Dan, I will have files on Tuesday/Wednesday...

Oleg (my PBEM opponent) has all files but since now is public holiday in our
Country (Easter) he can't send the files to me until he returns to his office
next Tuesday.

Hi Leo

Sounds good. Make sure it is repetable before you send the files with passwords.

When you get the files you can contact me directly at:

dpalb02@student.vxu.se

Dan, I just send you all files needed to reproduce UV UV fighter bug "Unable
To Locate Target"...

Oleg will shortly send you his PBEM password (he is allies - player #2).

In my PBEM game we are in the middle of June and so far it has only happened once. In the previous PBEM game (before 2.30) it seemed to happen more frequently. Mogami said they were aware of the problem but had not found the solution. In my experience it happens most often (or maybe always - I can't remember) with fighters based on Shortlands going to GiliGili.

It really hurts when they go off on their own like this. Then you have to wait an extra four or five days before you can use them to escort your bombers. It would not be quite as bad if they found some Allied aircraft to engage - but they never find their target.:(
