It looks like separated soldiers move toward the units destination at the time the soldier(s) got separated. Even if the unit changes stops or changes its destination. I was moving a HQ unit long distace, one man lagged behind and became separated. HQ unit stopped to defend along the path. Separated soldier ran right on past them heading for the destination in effect at the time of his separation.

I like the idea rather than the old method which gave units homing beacons so separated soldiers would find their way. But if a separated man intersects with his units command circle, he should lose his separated status.
