USSR unit merging?

Hi, rules say:

"Large and small corps can be merged or split off into small corps and divisions. Armies can be split into two smaller armies. A division can merge with a division or a small corps to make a small or large corps. A small infantry army can merge with another small infantry army to create a large infantry army. The merging unit will adapt the advancement of the unit into which it is merging. The lower of the two advancement levels will be the new advancement level of the merged unit. Some countries, such as Italy, can’t split or merge due to the small size of their historical division and inherit lack of combat effectiveness as a single division within the scale of the game. Small corps can’t merge into a division.
To split a corps or armies, go to the details of the unit. To merge smaller infantry units into a larger one, hover over a friendly unit while holding down the ALT key and right-click on the target unit. When merging only divisions can merge into other units. A split army can merge into another split army. Small corps can’t merge into a division"
..."Infantry Division – 10 strength, can form a small corps with another division or a large corps with a small corps Infantry Corps Small – 20 strength, can form a large corps with a division or split into 2 divisions Infantry Corps Large – 30 strength, can be split into a small corps and a division Infantry Army – 15 to 36 strength, can be split in half forming 2 smaller armies of 7–18 strength each The only major power to have army units is Russia"

The unit pictured seems to be a large corp but only 20 strength - so is it small or large? Can I split a 20 strength corp into 2 divisions then merge each division with a 20 strength corp to form 2 30 strength corps out of 3 20 strength corps? For SU units there doesn't seem to be a split button on any of the units - why?

Is there any way to form armies this way?

Thanks

That's right it is a large corps with 20 strength. It can't merge or be split. The USSR units represent the crap before the Germans invaded. You want to use Armies and limit how you build or reinforce those crappy pre 41 corps. They are speed bumps and slowdowns will the real Red Army comes online.

A country can't merge or split a unit if they don't have that unit available to build. Italy has only small corps and can't split into divisions.

These were done to better mimic the organization and real strengths of those countries.

Thanks - is it same story for mech/armor units? Or those are fine to build/reinf?

And same question for cav corps? They are useful so let them reinf or turn off reinf and let them be speed bumps?

Armies don't seem to be avail to build - will they become avail later? Is there a way to know these things without asking on forum? It seems we need an FAQ or upgrade to the manual for this kind of stuff?

** actually there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off reinf, just to not prioritize it. Is it worth disbanding this crappy stuff or better to just dig it in and wait for it to die?

Reinforcement toggle is in the upper left of a unit crossed tools

Only corps are crap. Mach and tank fine

Armies are available when at war or 1942

You can disband the corps and make new armies. You have to decide when and how many
