Understanding Town (Resource) Defence Bonus

When you view the properties of a resource such as a Town it lists 2 sets of figures.
The first is the Defense Bonus , the second is the Defense Value

How is the Defense Bonus used?

I've attached an early war image of UK strategic bomber making a run against Bremen.

I can see that the Defense Value of Zero is used and that the Defense Bonus is not used at all.

Does this mean that the Defense Bonus is used by units only?
And are the figures, eg Tanks 2 mean that a Bonus of 2 is given to a defending Tank or a Bonus of 2 is givenn to any unit defending against a Tank

Would the unit also get the Defense Value, presumably not?

And then if I look at this settlement the Defense Values and Defense Bonus appear to be the wrong way round

Which is probably just a labelling thing, right?

But then if I upgrade the Anti-Air Defense 0 -> 1 I think it allocates the upgrade to the wrong column

All good questions! I've wondered much the same. I look forward to the responses.

Answers are below, I hope this helps clarify it all. [:)]

Yes.

It provides a bonus to any unit defending against a Tank unit.
Would the unit also get the Defense Value, presumably not?

No, it just gets the bonus.

You may be right here, though I think it's something we'll have to investigate after the holiday season. [:)]

There is an error in the column headings within the Properties screen that has been fixed for the next update. The data is correct, but the column headings should read Defense Bonus in the left column, and Defense Values in the right column.

Sorry for the confusion,
Hubert

With reference to Bremen above:

If I stationed a fighter there then it would get a Defense Bonus of + 1 against both Fighter and Bomber attack

but when flying intercept missions, would it also get the Bonus?

It wouldn't, because the bonus is only for units attacked while occupying the resource, which isn't the case when engaged in air combat as they will be elsewhere at the time.

Hmm, my fighters are getting massacred by escorts when flying intercept missions. I need to develop a strategy to overcome that

If I set my fighters to ground, do they still defend themselves if attacked ??

If they are attacked by let's say a Tactical Bomber then no, there is no difference in its defense whether it is grounded or not, however if attacked by a Strategic Bomber there is a potential difference as a fighter unit can act as its own interceptor against a Strategic Bombing attack... but will of course not be able to do so if it is grounded.
