The Italian Navy sailed out in full force and was atacked by the Royal Navy. Big mistake.
Sure it cost me a lot of oil, but this is just nice [:D]

This doesn't prove anything TBH, you have 3 BB groups in your ships and you sunk a CA group.
Basically 6 or more battleships with support sunk a small group of 2 Heavy Cruisers with some support (support being Light Cruisers and Destroyers).

Wasn't trying to prove anything, just sharing something that happened when I was trying something a bit "drastic" like sailing the entire Italian navy out in harm's way. No more, no less.

Historically, the Italians had great frogmen who kept raiding the British and in one famous raid sunk 2 BBs, both were raised a few months later and repaired but still knocked out for several months. The Italian Fleet in being, forced the Royal Navy to commit enormous assets at Alexandria.

At Crete, a CV, 2 BBs, 2 CAs, 3CLs, 5DDs and 3SUBS were sunk by the Luftwaffe and crippled the Royal Navy for months.

The naval war wasn't a cakewalk because German submarines could enter the Mediterranean and when the Luftwaffe came to play the Royal Navy usually ran away.

wait until you guys start to try to build more ships for the italian navy to have full control of mediteranean sea's.

2 carrier groups in the italian navy makes it far more useful ^_^

but as usual, good luck keeping it fueled for more than 1 sortie every month or so ^_^

And strike 2:


The Royal Navy is taking a beating by the Regia Marina. Also, I have German tactical bombers in the Med. They too, do damage. Usually they do not find the fleet in the first strike, but often they do the second strike is my impression.

Total losses thus far in my current game:


German naval losses are all U boats. I have 9 U Boat units at the moment.

And the next turn this happened:


The Italian navy ambushed the Royal Navy! They sunk the Ramillies [:D]
But they suffered losses too in the exchange. Right after that, the Royal Airforce attacked. Almost sinking the Caio Duilio.
It has only 1 point of strength left. I quickly returned to Taranto after that with the entire fleet.

Still, the Italian Navy inflicted considerable casualties. And yes they did not come out unscathed, but no unit was sunk.

Well - if the Royal Navy goes out in small bits and bobs, and the Regia Marina sails out as one single formation - it's not surprising the Regia Marina nets win after win.
